Who is eligible?
Current NALHE members that are either an undergraduate senior, graduate school student, and/or in their first two years as an early careerist. Applicants must be located in the United States.
Do applicants need to be a member of NALHE to apply?
Yes. If you’re not a member, please JOIN NOW prior to applying – (select “Special Membership Offer” as the Member Option & select your Local Chapter location).
What is the La Mesa Emerging Leaders Program?
It is a cohort-structured leadership development & mentorship program that provides a safe space for thought leadership, sharing of experiences, exchange of knowledge, connections, networking, open discussion with diverse featured speakers from across the country. In addition, La Mesa also provides conversation on leadership books and authors.
Why is this program available?
The program was created to encourage exploratory conversations, career paths, addressing career obstacles & development of the future leaders in healthcare. The program aims to augment member competencies & experiences through relevant learning opportunities aligned with NALHE’s Strategic Priorities.
What skills will this program help me develop?
Leadership Competencies, Navigating Difficult Conversations, Mental Health, Emotional Intelligence, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Assessing the Imposter Syndrome, Pivoting Your Career Path, Resume Optimization, Communication, Interviewing Skills to mention a few.
What is the duration of the program?
6 Months – March through August.
La Mesa meets every 1st & 3rd Tuesday from 5:30pm-7:00pm CT. Please note additional dates may be added for trainings, community service and NALHE Annual Leadership Summit.
What are the program requirements?
NALHE membership, program attendance, engagement, and 10 hours of community service or panel participation. Panel events will be virtual. Events will be announced during the program.
Where will program participants meet?
Program meets via a virtual meeting platform.
How do I apply for the program?
The application for 2024 is now closed. Check back for more information regarding the 2025 application!
When does the application open & close?
Application opens the first week of January and closes the last week of January.
How many applicants will be accepted?
The NALHE La Mesa Emerging Leaders Program Cohort accepts up to 25 members.
Do applicants have to join a NALHE committee to be eligible?
No. However, you are required to be an active member of NALHE to be considered for the program. We encourage applicants and cohort members to connect with their local NALHE Chapter as a member to join a committee. Please note the time commitment of the NALHE La Mesa Emerging Leaders Program.
When will acceptance decisions be announced?
Offers of acceptance will be announced via email in February.
