Interim Medical Center Director / Chief Executive Officer
VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System (NIHCS)

Mr. Anthony Colón, FACHE was appointed as the Interim Medical Center Director / Chief Executive Officer for the VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System (NIHCS) on September 4, 2022.

Prior to his current position he was the Associate Director for Operations/ Chief Operations Officer. As the Associate Director he was responsible for Bio Medical Engineering, Emergency Management, Environmental Maintenance, Facilities Management, Fiscal, Police, and Strategic Planning. He served as the Assistant Director for Operations from October 2019 to August 2021. He was responsible for the operations of Environmental Health & Safety, Medical Administration, Nutrition & Food, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids, Supply Chain Management, Veteran Transportation and Volunteers.

Mr. Colon came to NIHCS from the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System where he served as Chief, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids. Mr. Colón has served in progressively higher leadership roles with VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, Veterans Integrated Service Network 11 and Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center.

He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 23 years of service in 2011 where his final assignment was as the Superintendent, 181st Medical Group, Terre Haute, Indiana. He deployed to Southwest Asia as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of Operation Sea Signal.

Mr. Colón earned a BS in Management and MS in Management- Healthcare from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. He is a graduate of the VISN 11 Leadership Development (LDI) and the VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP). He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a 2021 graduate of the Leadership Fort Wayne Program. He is an active member of the VA ACHE Regent Advisory Council, the Indiana Healthcare Executive Network (IHEN), the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives (NALHE) and the Anthony Wayne Council, BSA Board of Directors.
He and his wife, Sheryl, have five adult children and five grandchildren.
