Parkland Health

Edmundo Castañeda is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Parkland Health in Dallas, TX, having joined the organization in January of 2022. He is responsible for operational leadership of the system, a public hospital district comprised of an 882-bed hospital, ambulatory, post-acute and correctional services, along with a managed care plan. Prior to Parkland, Castañeda was President of Mercy General Hospital and Woodland Memorial Hospital in the Greater Sacramento area, a part of CommonSpirit Health.

In his new role, Mr. Castañeda is looking forward to engaging in community, state, and national organizations, having a track record of significant involvement historically. While in Sacramento he served on the Board of Directors for Valley Vision, the American Heart Association, and was Chair of the Hospital Council of Northern & Central California. Additionally, he was on the Board of Trustees for the California Hospital Association, served on the Regional Policy Board for the American Hospital Association (Region 9) and in American Leadership Forum (Mountain Valley Chapter).

Castañeda has 25 years of professional healthcare experience including senior leadership at large hospitals with ambulatory clinic operations and physician integration models.

Prior to CommonSpirit Health, Mr. Castañeda served as chief executive officer at Tenet Healthcare Corporation’s Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. Prior to that, he served as chief executive officer of Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, New Mexico and as chief operating officer of MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Castañeda holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He is married to his wife, Veronica and they have three children, Brianna, 20; Paulina, 18; and Gabriel, 14.
