Melinda Mendoza BSN, JD, CPC, CHC, CHPC, CHRC

Melinda is the Chief Compliance Officer at Renown Health System in Reno, Nevada. Renown Health is an integrated healthcare network serving Nevada, Lake Tahoe and northeast California. It is comprised of two acute care hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital, the area’s most comprehensive medical group and urgent care network, an Accountable Care Organization, and the region’s largest and only locally owned not-for-profit insurance company. In 2021, Renown created the area’s first Clinically Integrated Network, the Western Clinical Alliance. At Renown, Melinda has implemented version 2.0 Compliance, Privacy and Audit Programs that mitigate enterprise risk and support the strategic goals of the health system.She ensures executive leadership and Board engagement through regular reports. Most recently, Melinda was given Information Security Governance, Risk and Compliance (IS GRC) responsibility. She plans to also take theIS GRC Program to a version 2.0 and beyond. Melinda has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Juris Doctorate, as well as certifications in coding, corporate compliance,research compliance and privacy.

Previous to Renown, Melinda worked at the University of Arizona Health Network (UAHN), southern Arizona’s only academic medical center and Carondelet Health Network, a faith based system. UAHN was comprised of a faculty practice plan, a health plan and two hospitals, including a Level I Trauma Center and psychiatric hospital. While at UAHN, Melinda held Compliance Officer and healthcare attorney roles. In her Compliance role, she was involved in research compliance,hospital, physician and health plan compliance, as well asimplemented the system’s first HIPAA Privacy Program. In her attorney role she advised oncompliance with government agreements, Medicare regulations, corporate, contract, transaction and employmentmatters. At Carondelet, she had the opportunity to implement the Network’s first Compliance and Ethics Program and first environmental compliance program. She also had responsibility forrisk and claims management, infection control, safety, and security. This experience came after a few years in a clinical capacity as a cardiac Registered Nurse and Charge Nurse at Carondelet.

Since arriving in northern Nevada in 2014, Melinda has been active in ensuring medically underserved populations receive healthcare through her Board involvement at Community Health Alliance (CHA), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Her Board involvement includes membership on many Committees including five years on the Executive Committee and currently, as the Board President. Melinda also serves on the Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus’s COVID 19 Task Force –Northern Nevada Sub-Committee in order to ensure the Latino community receives COVID education and resources during the pandemic. Melinda also serves on the Northern Nevada Catholic Charities Development Committee with a focus on immigration for victims of violence. In 2021, Melinda was recognized by the Nevada Women’s Fund as a Woman of Achievement for her community work.

Melinda is a proud mother to three adult sons and her only “daughter” is her dog, Portia.
